Same color, same function, same form, what’s the difference anyway?
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) and NYX are two different products where each of it is utterly significantly different in price. And I am wondering what makes them different. According to the experiences I heard from friends since high school until college, NYX has been a good friend to them. Almost everyone has it in their pouch. Whilst my blogger and working friends have always had a thought that quality depends on its price which eventually got them YSL in their pouch.
However, I would like to see whether price really proves its quality or it could be the other way around. I got two lipsticks from NYX and YSL with similar shades, I reviewed it based on my experience. Let’s get started with the first shade.
NYX Matte Lipstick: Natural (MLS12)
Truthfully, NYX has also been a good friend to me since freshman year in college. This shade gives me a neutral effect onto my lips. Its smooth texture gets matte quickly and it lasts approximately 3 hours without heavy meals since its color is a bit nude and looks more like light purple.
YSL: Rouge Pur Couture (62N802)
This shade looks really similar with NYX but there is one thing which could differentiate YSL and NYX. Its texture is super smooth as I slide the shade around my lips. It lasts longer for approximately 5 hours without heavy meals but still needs a retouch if you want it to stay fabulous on your lips.
NYX Butter Lipstick: Mary Janes (BLS08)
Red lips always lie. If only you know that verse from a song, you can relate. Its color is really on point since it looks super bright which is suitable for party ocassions. Since it is a butter lip, it is not a matte type and quiet glossy at first but not after that. It lasts the same, approximately 3 hours without heavy meals or your lips will look lousy thus you need to be super aware for retouch.
YSL: Rouge Pur Couture The Mats (62N104)
This shade looks darker than NYX and still suitable for party ocassions. The texture is super smooth which makes me craving to slide it onto my lips over and over again. Although it feels smooth but somehow it comes a bit matte which makes it lasting longer for approximately 5 hours without heavy meals. Since the shade is total red, then retouch is highly recommended.
So, have you picked your choice? Truthfully, YSL is more pricey than NYX and if you have read the review, you must have figured out where the difference is. The shade might be the same but no products can put their quality in disguise. However, the ball is in your court! What will you consider first? Its quality or its color?
Tell me what you think in the comment box below and share your perspective. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend! 🙂
Fun Trivia // The philosophy behind the name of NYX is the Greek goddess (or personification) of the night, therefore the name is NYX which spelled in Ancient Greek with Νύξ, “night”.
I love the pink color of the NYX lipstick. Great post!

It’s always something I’m intrigued by, some say the only difference between drugstore and high end is packaging, and others think higher price equals higher quality so it’s always nice to see the two compared!! Of course I’ll be waiting for the next post! 🌸💖

Indeed! Couldn’t agree more with you but in the end, it only depends to our comfort within the product itself.
Wonderful! Thank you so much. I’d also like to say that your blog is really fascinating. Keep up the good work xx
