7 Photo Editors I Have On My Phone

A cake wouldn’t look pretty without icing, and so is a photo. A photo wouldn’t look beautiful without filter.

I like spending my free time editing pictures on my phone, creating new filters on my own and enjoy the beauty. Besides editing pictures, I absolutely like taking pictures. People think I use SLR/DSLR camera or any other expensive ones because the quality of my posts on instagram look very clear. Actually I only use my old Sony CyberShot Digital Camera with 10.1 megapixel, but I’m still saving to get the new one so I can do vlogging 🙂

The dusty effect and polaroid frame are the favorite ones from this app. I love the filters but honestly not as much as I do with the filters by vscocam.

Snapseed

I think this one more fits with photographers or the ones who tend to use lack of filter or maybe not even use any filters. It’s better to adjust the brightness, contrast, highlights and stuff using snapseed because I think their quality is way higher than any other apps.

The most useful one, I think this app is like windows 8 because everything at once. It has a lot of features, such as various filters, stickers, frames, background and many more. I usually edit my pic to get mirror effect with picsart.

The Premiere Of “The Golden Cane Warrior”

I want to do a little throwback to the time where I was invited to watch the premiere of The Golden Cane Warrior from GADIS Magazine with its casts. It was held last year in December 20. I still remember that I skipped school because of this rare opportunity even though that day was the day I had to take my report card but YOLO.

Two days before the premiere, I got a call from GADIS Magazine that I got a chance to watch this movie premiere and to make sure if I was available for the premiere or not. I got 2 tickets and I thought about to give the other ticket to my sister instantly. But unfortunately, I lived out of town and it takes about 3 hours or more to Jakarta. I lived in Bandung, Indonesia to be exact. Because I was stubborn and I couldn’t resist the excitement, I bravely went to Jakarta by shuttle on my own. It was also my first time and my sister would pick me up, so there was actually nothing to worry about but earned an experience.

“It’s the day!”

I wore an outerwear by Zara, trouser by Giordano, belt by New Look and shoes by Charles and Keith. When I was in the line to get the ticket, my shoulder was nudged by a woman. She said that I was chosen as one of the best-dressed girls and I was like, “Are you serious? I didn’t even make an effort for my look. Look at my eye-bags, my eye-bags..”. She gave me a white ribbon as you can see on my right wrist as a mark. But however I was absolutely excited and I was intrigued to know what prize I would get for being a best-dressed girl. HAHA. I feel so cheap, excuse me.

I went in to the theater and a crew of GADIS Magz gave me and my sister two bags which were filled with their latest magazine, coffee, some products from garnier and their merchandise in each bag then we found our seats.

A so-called host from GADIS Magz came to greet the lucky audiences included me. I finally saw the face of the girl that I had been emailing with, yes, that host. I was working for GADIS Magz to make an article that time and she helped me to stay in touch with my editor when I couldn’t reach her through email.

First, the host asked some questions about this movie, if the audience answers it correctly, she/he will win the prize. I raised my hand to answer the question but the host didn’t even notice me at all but I didn’t mind. I didn’t mind 🙂

Then the time had come! Audiences who won a white ribbon were called to go to the front of theater. I was kinda nervous but I tried to stay calm. The host said that she had a surprise for all of us and voila! the casts were coming from the exit door and they were running a little towards us (us who wore white ribbon on our wrist). My body got shaky because those actors are all my favorite. Sadly, the actress didn’t come and I didn’t know why.

They stood beside us and they gave us a gift for winning as a best-dressed girl,

I was beyond excited to see them in person, they were all really nice, especially Reza Rahadian. He often gave me smiles whenever I saw his face. Thank you GADIS Magazine for giving me this golden opportunity!

Sophisticated Tips For College Freshmen Should Know

Life on campus offers a lot of temptation for the unwary students. And you absolutely have necessities that take up a large portion of your college fund, such as lifestyle and clothing, furniture to decor your own dorm, class/lab fees, food and entertainment. Moreover, you have things to prepare before you start your freshman year.

Fortuitously, I’ll start college in a few weeks from now. I’ve just made a list to prepare for my freshman year, so I wanted to share it with you guys. Let’s get started!

Setting Up Your Laptop

Laptop is now anyone’s necessity nowadays. It’s used to save our files and stuff. Yeah, it’s very useful but have you ever thought about the worse? What if your laptop has a meltdown and your phone goes for a swim? You may think it’s too far to think so but we have to anticipate. I decided to install OneDrive and DropBox. I use online storage to save my files because I still can get my files anywhere and anytime I want even though the device isn’t mine. You also could use a hard disk or another external storage but I think using online storage is the most efficient way to save my college fund.

Weekly Food Budget

Make a weekly food budget and stick to it or you can cook to save more money, cut out any unnecessary restaurant spending, eating out can jeopardize your college fund for Neptune’s sake. And for drinks, instead of drinking coffee, smoothies and stuff, mineral water is healthier anyway 🙂

The price of textbooks could be outrageous and you don’t use them for a lifetime anyway, just because your professor asks you to get it, doesn’t mean you have to get the original one. You can :
– Go to your college library
– Buy a second-hand book which is cheaper
– Google the books you need and download the PDF/e-Book
– Or maybe you could rent it to bookrenter.com

Pursue Scholarships

Thankfully, I got a scholarship in a college I’ll be going to and seriously, scholarship and grants can help you reduce your college cost. If your performance in college gets better than ever, you could get a full scholarship in time. Just keep the good work!

Be Active in Professional Organizations/Clubs

Decide What You Want To Be After College

Go to career center in your college and ask them how to pursue your dream like where you want to work at, what position you want to be and how much salary you’ll get in the company you want to go to for certain positions, etc because the earlier, the better.

Be Confident

I’m excited and nervous at the same time but the more I think, being a freshman isn’t that bad, it’s a challenge that we need to face to take our feet out of its comfort zone and feel the new things, because that’s where the real life is. The Difference Between Hijabi and Non-Hijabi

This time, I want to share something personal that I never thought it would happen to me. It’s a brand new day that could lead you to something that you never expected before.

And it happened to me.

That brand new day has affected my mind, my soul, my everything. I never thought that idea would pop up on my mind that easy. It came just like that. It happened after I had had sahoor on the first week of Ramadan. I was about to sleep after dawn prayer but there was something on my mind that I couldn’t stop thinking about.

“I want to start wearing hijab.”

I’m a muslim but I was a non-hijabi. I hated wearing clothes with long sleeves and wearing scarfs around my head, it just felt uncomfortable and stifling. And I also thought that I would only start to wear hijab if my morals are good in islamic way or the day after I get married. Those are the reasons why I didn’t want to wear hijab in the first place.

That thought kept spinning around my head. I got out of bed and took my laptop. I went on google and youtube to know more about hijab. There was one thing I was kinda scared of wearing hijab, the job requirement. I want to be a career woman, I’ve seen a lot of articles saying that women with scarf on their heads likely to not be accepted in a company. Especially in a company that affiliates with international companies around the world. I’ve always wanted to work in an international magazine, such as Vogue, People, New York Times, etc. I was a lil bit pissed, scared and flustered at the same time.

I googled some cases about discrimination towards hijabis in the workplace. Then there’s one case that could convince me more to wear hijab, a US Muslim who wins hijab case against Abercrombie & Fitch. But then again, I should’ve believed that everything comes from Allah and so is the fate that I’ll have in future. I should’ve not been that worried.

Second confusion is, mostly my clothes are short sleeves and body fit. And hijab clothes are 180 degrees different with the clothes that I had been wearing. I was like, “Oh bloody hell, I don’t know what to wear. I’ll just go naked. Okay”. Not literally, I was joking. I went on youtube and saw some youtubers with stylish hijab for college on daily basis. I started falling in love with hijab, I want to look different in a catchy way. By wearing hijab doesn’t mean you have to look strict like a terrorist. Just like what Angelina Jolie ‘Maleficent’ says on Kids Choice Award 2015, “Different is beautiful”.

After all various researches and considerations, I decided to wear hijab. I decided to cover up my body and by wearing hijab, it has made me realize that I have to control everything I do. And I’ve felt the difference,

I had been being a non-hijabi for 17 years 6 months. I had been showing my body parts that I should have concealed in the first place. When I wasn’t wearing headscarf or anything that cover up my whole body, I felt unprotected. I often found men staring at me with fuck-me eyes and stuff, I often got catcalled, being commented physically, being checked on by people from head to toe. That was all very annoying.

Then the day I started wearing hijab has come, I barely found men staring me at with that kind of stare anymore. I’m feeling protected and tend to keeping myself away from bad things because I’m wearing something that symbolizes my religion. Wearing hijab is not a symbol as a feminist, hijab is a shield for women in any cases.

And there’s one thing that I find it interesting on women who wear hijab, their future husband must be the luckiest guy alive because he’s the only person who knows how his wife look like beneath her hijab. I’m not saying that men who marry non-hijabis unlucky, but if you still have a chance to try hijab, why not now? I used to think that I would only start to wear hijab if I’ve finally found the one. But I’ve changed that mindset, if I want a different result, I have to make a change. I hope this good start will lead me to something which is good for my life. But I believe it will.

I hope my experience will inspire you to wear hijab and this is the decision that I’ve made to face this world (which is full of insanity). Although I’m still learning how to wear hijab properly, I’m hoping that I will never try to take it off or get myself influenced by negative circumstances to take it off. I have a belief system that asks me to cover up my body, I have a very high expectation that there’ll be no more discrimination against women with headscarf. We’re all the same, we’re human being, we have hearts, we have feelings, why hurting each other?

How To Make Scrapbook With Recycled Paper

As I’ve promised on 3 Fun Things I Do When I’m Bored ‘s post that I would post how I did my scrapbook with recycled paper where you don’t need to buy new papers and stuff, you only need old newspapers which are left out in your garage.

At first I didn’t mean to make a scrapbook at all, I even had no idea and didn’t know why that I actually made it eventually. I got a task from my Art teacher at school to make a recycled paper. I was really not into it at first because it wasn’t my thing at all (and still not, I guess because I’m a consumptive person eh?). But however I had to finish this work with my group.

I’m not gonna explain how to make recycled paper, because the needed stuff seems complicated and I’m pretty sure, 75% of people would rather buy recycled papers at Scrapbook Store instead of making it themselves. And here are things you need to make your own fancy scrapbook :

  • Notebook
  • Recycled Paper
  • Glue (I used glue for wood because it sticks better than paper glue)
  • Scissor
  • Random Buttons
  • Any other stuff you may think it’s cute for your scrapbook

HOW TO :

  1. Take the hard cover off of the book. It’s either the front or the back page.

  2. Glue the hard cover with recycled paper neatly.

  3. Pierce the covered hard cover holes with scissor/knife or anything you think it’s sharp to use.

  4. And your current scrapbook looks like mine so far

  5. Now, it’s time to spice up your masterpiece. I made “Okay? Okay” sign for my scrapbook’s back page. And I used ice cream sticks for short quotes, letters from magazine, buttons and lace that I got from my button’s case as bonus. Use your creativity to make the most fancy scrapbook evah!

  6. The scrapbook is done, BUT it still doesn’t look like a scrapbook to me. Let’s make a cover for it. Use duplex carton for its cover, adjust the size with your own scrapbook.

  7. After that, cover the duplex carton with another carton or paper. It’s for the inside of scrapbook cover, so it won’t look messy. If you’ve finished covering the duplex carton, reverse the other side of duplex carton and cover it with recycled paper. If you’re running out of recycled paper, you can use carton/paper/fabric/etc.

  8. Back to your notebook, twine the notebook ring from the top to the bottom of notebook with scrapbook rope (I don’t know what it is called exactly but I found this rope in Scrapbook Store).

    Do not tie the rope, take the scrapbook cover you’ve pierced, put the rope in the hole and twine the scrapbook cover like you did to your notebook.

3 Fun Things I Do When I’m Bored

These days are boring. Especially when you’re in “holiday” (to the people who spend the rest of holiday at home staring at screen 24/7).

Your butt feels numb
Your breath smells vacuous
Your eyes feel weary
Your stomach gets bigger

I feel you guys. I feel you. Because of that, I’ve been doing these awesome stuff to do whenever I feel bored. It’s really fun to do. Be a person with great minds who discuss ideas not a person with below average who tend to discuss people whenever they  see someone pass them by. And here are FUN things to do when you’re bored out of your mind :

1. Make a Bucket List
Because it’s summer, then make a summer bucket list! Write down all the things you wanted to do and do it all in summer. It feels like you’re challenging yourself to accomplish all your summer goals.

And to all Muslim around the world, because it’s Ramadhan. You can also make a bucket list from the first day of fasting until the end of Ramadhan. So, you have 30 goals to do each day, isn’t it fun?

2. Make a Scrapbook
Take some polaroid pictures and stick em on your scrapbook. Keep your memories and let your children see your young, wild and free moments!

3. Complete Wreck-This-Journal
This phenomenal book by Keri Smith which is often seen on tumblr is quite challenging. The orders are very various and weird? It’s like you have to go shower with this book and sleep with it. It seems ridiculous at first but when you reach the end of this book, you can see your real creativity.

Get On Diet With Vanilla Ice Cream

This diet method lets you eat Vanilla Ice Cream. Isn’t that bizarre? This diet is totally different than the others, it only needs 3 days to lose around 10 pounds. Because of that, I wanted to give it a try.

Day 1
I started day one on Tuesday. I bought some foods I needed for the next 3 days because I was actually running out of food in the fridge, ouch how sad. You need a total preparation before you do this diet.

  • Breakfast 
    1/2 grapefruit
    1 slice of toast
    2 tbspn of peanut butter
    1 cup of coffee (with caffeine) or teaProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetHow I did it :
    I didn’t have grapefruit, so I substituted grapefruit by putting 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water
    What I felt :
    2 tbspn of peanut butter but I only had 1 slice of toast. I started feeling nauseated before I had tasted it but actually it felt okay at first but then I felt queasy in the last bite. After I had spent the peanut butter and toast, I drank a glass of baking soda and I felt more queasy than ever. I like peanut butter but not that much.
  • Lunch
    1/2 cup of tuna
    1 slice of bread or toast
    1 cup of coffee (with caffeine) or teaProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetHow I did it :
    I substituted tuna with chicken. I added a little bit of spices like pepper and salt in it. Very little. I couldn’t eat plain chicken for God’s sake.
    What I felt :
    I started enjoying this diet. Though two hours after meal I had felt hungry, I couldn’t get some snacks and eat and smile. I had to wait for dinner.
  • Dinner
    3 ounces of any meat (same size as deck of cards)
    1 cup of green beans
    1 small apple
    1/2 banana
    1 cup of vanilla ice creamProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset How I did it :
    Meat that I ate was chicken, I didn’t eat 3 ounces of chicken, that was quite too much for me. And I only ate 3 green beans, I don’t know if that was the same as 1 cup of green beans but I only ate 3. I also substituted small apple with pears. I had a quite big pear and I only ate half of it.
    What I felt :
    Dinner is my favorite in military diet because I could eat ice cream. I felt hungry at 9 above, I used to eat whatever I wanted whenever I felt hungry but this time, I had to control my lust on foods.

Day 2
I woke up at 7 and went to the kitchen immediately. I know that we technically have to wait at least two hours before breakfast, but I didn’t mind, I cooked for my lovely belly. But you know what? I successfully lost 2 pounds from Day 1! Let’s see what would happen in Day 2.

  • Breakfast
    1 slice of bread or toast
    1 egg cooked (however you like)

    I made omelette because I hate sunny side up egg. I accidentally added too much butter, so the omelette looks oily in the pic above. But I left it for a couple of minutes and wrapped the omelette with tissues to get the oil absorbed.
    What I felt :
    That was enough for breakfast.
  • Lunch
    1 cup of cottage cheese
    1 hard boiled egg
    5 saltine crackersProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetHow I did it :
    I went out that day, so I put the meal into a food container. I substituted cottage cheese with 1 slice of cheddar cheese. I didn’t find saltine crackers but I found a cracker which has 9 calories. All you need to know is, each saltine cracker has 13 calories.
    What I felt :
    It was good but I’m not satisfied. People who are on diet will never be satisfied, will they?
  • Dinner
    2 hot dogs (with no bun)
    1 cup of brocolli
    1/2 cup of carrots
    1/2 banana
    1/2 cup of vanilla ice creamProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetHow I did it :
    I kinda cheated in the afternoon. My mother brought me meatballs and I ate 3 because I was tempted. And I also had no hot dog that time, I completely forgot about hot dog. So, I think it was fine and I became a vegen by substituting hot dogs with a cup of green beans.
    What I felt :
    It tasted so vegetable.

Day 3
I lost 2 pounds from day 2. It was the same as I had lost from day 1. I had known this from the start, I wouldn’t lose weight up to 10 pounds, maybe 6 pounds or less. But however, I had been doing it for 2 days and I only needed one more day to finish.

  • Breakfast
    1 slice of cheddar
    5 saltine crackers

    I substituted small apple with grapes though I substituted it with pear on day 1. Color up your life, guys. Don’t get stuck on the same menu.
    What I felt :
    It was okay.
  • Lunch
    1 slice of bread or toast

    I made scrambled egg because I had made omelette and hard boiled egg in the past 2 days. I also added a little bit of spices too like pepper and salt. I can’t live without seasoning.
    What I felt :
    It was delicious.
  • Dinner
    1 cup of tuna
    1/2 banana

    I substituted tuna with chicken like I did on day 1. I also ran out of vanilla ice cream, so I added strawberry ice cream in it.
    What I felt :
    It was delicious because I met vanilla ice cream.

This diet method is well-known as military diet and that’s how I did my military diet. It was kinda bad in the first day, especially in the breakfast menu. But day by day, especially on day 2, I started getting used to it. In day 4, I’ve successfully lost 5 pounds. But however, I have to do this continuity to lose more weight. You can do this every week with 4 days off each week. It’s all about habit, I liked having snacks and eating sweet foods but as you can see in the military diet menu, they have less sweet and salty foods. And I think that’s why they let you eat vanilla ice cream at night because human’s body needs sugar. And brain can’t work entirely without sugar, people who don’t consume sugar, they tend to feel tired when they think.

Spend Less Pennies, Get MORE Shimmies

“When I shop, the world gets better, and the world is better, but then it’s not, I need to do it again”

Then the bill mail comes..

“They said I was a valued customer, now they send me hate mail”

That’s what Rebecca Bloomwood says in Confession Of A Shopaholic (2009). Did it ever happen to you once? or twice? or more?

But however, we can’t deny it, shopping makes us happy. at the time.
I’m a seventeen year old girl who likes shopping so much and I haven’t earned money yet. When you heard that, I knew I must have been judged that I’m just a parent-s-money-spender. Well, I’m not.

Never earned money.
Teenager.
But shops a lot.

That’s why I’ll be giving you some shopping tips where you can shop branded clothes with less pennies but you’ll get more shimmies. Here you go :

1. DO NOT Bring Much Money
“Oh my gosh! I love this shoes so much, but oh wait. this is expensive and I don’t bring enough money for it.”
That’s how it goes, you have very enough money in your pocket. Enough for shopping in H&M/Stradivarius/New Look/Forever21 or whatever but you only get t-shirt, accessories, skirts and NOT JEANS, NOT A COAT, NOT EVEN A BAG. But you have a possibility to get the NOTs if there’s a big sale in certain stores.

2. Buy What You Need
This part is the hardest, isn’t it? Because when we enter the store, we smell the typical smell, the nice servants welcome us and notice the sale poster. That’s incredibly tempting!

Ah maybe this one will relieve you. From the title seems specific already, so I think I don’t have to explain about this one.

4. Do The 50:50 Thing With Your Mom/Dad/Sister/Brother
This one is working, especially if you do it with your mom. Just don’t do it to your boyfriend or girlfriend, it makes you look like a material person and that’s embarrassing. But make sure, none of them is stingy. Just make a puppy face and say, “This is so cute, Mom. It’s good for school. Mind to contribute? Please please please.” (school is the best reason because parents love it when their kids talking about school). There are 2 possibilities when you do this, you mom might to contribute or your mom will pay it all for you.

5. Monthly Cash
If you usually get monthly cash from your parents for school or something. Save 50% for school and save another 50% for shopping. But don’t be tempted with your thick pocket and use your school cash for shopping. That’s so wronggg..

So that’s basically what I usually do for the sake of shopping. I never spend my parent’s money for my hobby but I save some money I get from them to do my hobby. So, good luck on doing those tips shopaholics! And you’re welcome 🙂

Do Yoga and Namaste

I’m pretty sure you have already heard about yoga. The first time I did yoga was in 2014. Not so far from today right? It’s not if you read this in 2015. I felt there were many greases lie around my body. Well, my body shape is pear and that’s why I’m working on to make it look well-balanced with my top of body. Though they say it’s quite impossible to change the shape of your body but however, I’ll keep in shape at least?

Back to yoga. Yoga is the most calming exercise and it’s also a classy exercise. Why is that? It’s calming because we don’t need to spend so much oxygen for respiration and it’s classy because mostly yoga is done in a class with an instructor in it which means you need more pennies to do this. But don’t feel bad about it, it’s 2015 baby. You can do yoga anywhere, anytime and you don’t even need much money to spend for doing yoga. We have youtube!

I found my instructor (well, my virtual instructor) on youtube. I was looking for yoga videos for my weight loss and to fill my so-boring holiday with exercise. I watched several videos but I felt not suit either with the movement or the instructor. Especially, the movement. But then I found her, yogawithadriene (her channel name on youtube). I felt comfortable and honestly I still do.

That was a video of her doing yoga. Her yoga videos are various and all of them can be followed at home.

After I do yoga, I always feel good and free. Though in the first time I did yoga, I felt sore everywhere in my body but that’s worth it for a better life and a better shape of your body. But however, you have to love your body first, so you can listen to your body while doing this. Mind trying it? If you do, have a safe yoga because if it’s your first, you have to feel suitable with the movement. If you don’t and you keep pushing yourself doing yoga with unsuitable movements, your nerves will mad at you. Nerves injury is dangerous, so be careful my friends. Namaste 🙂
